Frequently Asked Questions
1) Which standards do LabGuard fume hoods meet?
All production models are tested against ASHRAE 110:2016 and EN 14175. We also conform to SEFA-1 for relevant furniture interfaces. Third-party testing can be arranged on request.
2) Is your fume hood corrosion-resistant?
Yes. Our standard hoods use GI (galvanized steel) with chemical-resistant powder coating for everyday R&D/QC environments.
3) What exactly is SmartSash™ and how does it save energy?
SmartSash™ optimizes exhaust volume based on sash position and improves user protection levels dramatically . Coupled with VAV controls/BMS, it reduces exhaust volume when the sash is lowered—cutting HVAC load while maintaining containment.
4) How much energy can we realistically save?
With SmartSash™ + VAV and good sash discipline, labs typically see ~30–40% HVAC energy savings versus constant volume baselines. Actual results depend on hood count, hours, and baseline setpoints.
5) Do your hoods integrate with our BMS/VAV system?
Yes. We support BACnet/Modbus integrations, provide IO schedules, and coordinate commissioning with your MEP team.
6) What materials do you use for corrosive or acid-digestion work?
For highly corrosive applications, choose our Polypro fume hoods and specialty liners/ducting. We spec materials after reviewing your chemical list and temperature profile.
7) Perchloric acid work—what special provisions are required?
Use our Perchloric Acid Fume Hood with integrated wash-down and dedicated ducting. Internal components are non-reactive, and the exhaust path is designed to minimize crystal deposition.
8) When should I choose ductless over ducted?
Ductless (carbon filtration) is ideal for specific, low-to-moderate vapor loads where the chemical profile is well-defined and filter management is enforced. Ducted is preferred for mixed/unknown chemistries, high loads, or heat-intensive work. We partner with Erlab (France) for advanced ductless tech.
9) Do you offer radioisotope hoods?
Yes—Radioisotope Fume Hoods with seamless stainless interiors, decontamination-friendly design, HEPA filtration options, and shielding configurations per radiation safety guidelines.
10) What about tall apparatus and columns?
Choose Distillation (Low-Bench) hoods for extra vertical clearance and service accessibility. For very large setups or drum handling, use Walk-in hoods.
11) How noisy are your hoods?
They’re engineered for low noise operation through optimized aerodynamics and GI construction. Typically, it is around 60-65dB at 1 meter distance.
12) How do you verify performance before handover?
We conduct in-house ASHRAE 110:2016 tests at our integrated facility, and can perform on-site ASHRAE 110:2016 tests post-installation to validate performance in your real HVAC conditions.
13) What’s the typical lifecycle and maintenance plan?
Hoods are designed for 15+ years with planned maintenance. We provide PM schedules, spares availability, and troubleshooting support (airflow, alarms, turbulence, etc.).
14) Do you provide training?
Yes—operator training on airflow mechanics, sash discipline, emergency procedures, and routine checks. We also offer refreshers and digital modules.
15) What documentation do you supply for projects?
GA drawings, cut-sheets, load data, utility points, BIM (as needed), and test certificates. We coordinate with architects/MEP consultants for services routing.
16) What fire-safety features are available?
Standard designs use fire-resistant liners per application class. Fire suppression can be provided as an option based on your risk assessment and local codes.
17) What warranty and service SLAs do you offer?
Standard warranty with extended coverage options available. Installations in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Banglore, Delhi, Pune and Kolkata get rapid service response.
18) Can you customize sizes, utilities, and controls?
Yes—bench-top, low-bench, walk-in, perchloric, radioisotope, ductless—all can be project-configured (sizes, worktops, sinks, taps, gas/vacuum points, alarms, controls).
19) Which hood is right for my chemistry?
Share your chemical/solvent list, process temperature, and expected loads. We’ll provide a configuration recommendation (ducted vs. ductless, liner material, filtration, airflow control).
